NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth is a friendly competition to see who can write 50 000 words in 30 days. For the entire month of November I will be writing, attempting to hit the 50 000 mark. For three years I’ve tried, and still have yet to succeed. This year I will post excerpts from my novel as often as I remember, in hopes that it will inspire and motivate me to diligently write. These excerpts will be messy and unpolished. That is point behind NaNoWriMo, to write without any regard of finesse. “Literary Abandon” is the term they use. For info on NaNoWriMo, visit www.nanowrimo.org.
The tile of my novel is “The Watch.” Here is a glimpse at some of my latest work:
There were some so badly oppressed that I wanted to walk up and somehow show them the shadows around them, and the light they could live in. I’ve done that before. To tell someone that they’re walking with a shadow hanging onto them, you’ll either get strange looks, or angry outbursts. I don’t do that anymore. What I will do however, is stop and talk to them. Olivia loves to walk with me when I go on these excursions. If I stop and talk to someone, I’ll ask Olivia what she might want to say to them. When I relay her message, usually, their faces light up, and the shadow’s loose grip. If I’m relaying Olivia’s words to someone with a guardian, the result is usually the guardian being litterally given a gift from Olivia. It’s always fun to watch someone walk away with a new treasure.
