NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth is a friendly competition to see who can write 50 000 words in 30 days. For the entire month of November I will be writing, attempting to hit the 50 000 mark. For three years I’ve tried, and still have yet to succeed. This year I will post excerpts from my novel as often as I remember, in hopes that it will inspire and motivate me to diligently write. These excerpts will be messy and unpolished. That is point behind NaNoWriMo, to write without any regard of finesse. “Literary Abandon” is the term they use. The tile of my novel is “The Watch.” Here is a glimpse at some of my latest work:
I didn’t want to risk Touching the bear too soon, so instead of climbing onto it’s back, I let the light around and ahead of me swirl, enough to form a whirl pool. The brilliant vortex sucked me up into the air, catapulting me high enough to directly grab the bear’s neck. It’s neck was so big, I could barely wrap my around around him. It instant landed, the beast began to trash around. I dug my fingers into his greasy fur and held on for dear life. As he bucked around, attempting to throw me off. I struggled to get ahold of the collar. It must have been put on the beast when it was a much smaller animal. Now the collar was so tight, I’m sure is was somewhat sunk into the bear’s hide. I didn’t bother struggling with it for too long. I didn’t have to have a hold of it anyway. Just one right touch of light and the shadows rippled in the fur. The bear reared and roared. Good, I was getting somewhere. Another stab of light and the reaction was so violent that my foe finally managed to fling me to the ground. The dirt came fast and hard. I was knocked senseless for a minute.
