NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth is a friendly competition to see who can write 50 000 words in 30 days. For the entire month of November I will be writing, attempting to hit the 50 000 mark. For three years I’ve tried, and still have yet to succeed. This year I will post excerpts from my novel as often as I remember, in hopes that it will inspire and motivate me to diligently write. These excerpts will be messy and unpolished. That is point behind NaNoWriMo, to write without any regard of finesse. “Literary Abandon” is the term they use. For info on NaNoWriMo, visit www.nanowrimo.org.
The tile of my novel is “The Watch.” Here is a glimpse at some of my latest work:
“Luke! How are you this morning? Wow, did you run up here again? Goodness boy, why don’t you hitch a ride with one of the balloons or something,” She asked.
“Hi Margaret! Good morning to you too, “ I responded.
“Don’t you ‘Good morning’ me, young man. You have six pallets of spices to process and there’s another elevator on it’s way up. Don’t waste all you’re energy before you get here,” the older, red haired woman was by all accoutns a fireball. If she was any taller, she would be an intimidating woman instead of amusing. Never the less, she had most of here employee’s respect. Not because she knew how to push your buttons and insult you, but because she was one of the hardest working people in town. There was no denying her work ethic, and it put most of us to shame.
I bowed curtly to her light lecture, “Sorry, Madam Margaret. I’ll get right to it.” She hated when I called her Madam.
